SCC had 8 riders (hope I have everyone!) represent the club in today’s Wexford Wheeler’s race. Murt, Pat, Paddy, Bill, Gianni, Stephen, Shane and Willie all lined up for what turned out to be a great race on a new, excellent circuit.
SCC riders were active throughout the race, with Murt, Stephen, Shane and Gianni all trying to get across to a group or starting their own break.
The first 2 laps featured a lot of action and then the 2 favourits and eventual 1st & 2nd placed riders, Sam Bennett and Martin O’ Loughlin made the decisive break on lap 2.
On lap 3 another group sneaked of the front. Gianni tried to get across but stuck in no man’s land (no legs land?) he was brought back by the bunch.
With a few km to go, a few Comeragh riders forced the pace at the top of the last hill and Gianni managed to get across, followed by new Wheeler’s talent Simon Lambert. The group of 6 managed to hold off the main bunch (containing Murt, Stephen and Shane ) to the finish line.
A big thank you to John Butler for doing backup and to all the others for the support on the road.

Daniel has kindly allowed me to post this photo of his finising “sprint” in Clonmel. The man has had a few falls since starting his cycling career. Here’s hoping that this one brings his “tar testing” phase to an end.

The Vets (”older” riders, NOT Animal Doctors) out there, might be interested in an explanation of the ruling passed in 2007.
(a) Seniors on applying for their first veterans licence will be issued with a Veterans category (V1, V2, V3) in line with their most recent Senior category. However this can be appealed under rule T3.10 below.(b) Veteran 3’s on amassing 10 points will be upgraded to Senior 2’s.
(c) Veteran 2’s on amassing 15 points in a calendar year will be upgraded to Veteran 1’s.
(d) Veteran 2’s with less than 15 points at year-end carry 50% of total obtained, rounded down, to next year.
(e) Veteran 1’s on the first full year following their upgrade, and each year thereafter, must obtain 6 points, or revert back to Veteran 2 with the points obtained in their last year as a Veteran 1 rider.
(f) Veteran 2’s who obtain 5 points or less in a calendar year may revert to Veteran 3’s.
